By  |

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - When disaster strikes, four-legged family members rely on human help more than ever. Experts say preparation is key.

Laura Atwood with Anchorage Animal Care and Control says in emergencies you need to be prepared in advance.

Atwood says to consider, "where am I taking all my family members, and that includes your pets."

To make sure your pet is protected if the worst is to happen, there are five animal preparedness essentials:

1 - Identify evacuation locations
2 - Microchip your pets
3 - Start a buddy system
4 - Assemble a disaster kit
5 - Take photos of you with your pets
