UPDATE: Fairbanks motorcyclist identified as 18-year-old

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Updated Tuesday, Oct. 9:

Troopers say the driver of the motorcycle, who was critically injured, has been identified as a teenager from Fairbanks.

According to AST, Zakary Skinner, 18 of Fairbanks, was riding the motorcycle which slammed into the side of a hatchback.

The bike then caught fire and was a total loss. The extent of Skinner's injuries is unknown other than he was last listed as being in critical condition.

A Fairbanks motorcyclist was critically injured after colliding with another vehicle at a high rate of speed Monday afternoon.

According to Alaska State Troopers, emergency responders were called to Farmers Loop near Ballaine Lake shortly before 3:00 p.m. Monday.

A preliminary investigation found that a motorcyclist traveling at a high rate of speed collided with the passenger side of a four-door hatchback. The male motorcycle driver suffered serious injuries when he was thrown off the bike, which caught fire and was a total loss.

The motorcyclist was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the hatchback was uninjured.
