ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - An Alaska Airlines jet en-route from Anchorage to Bethel Monday evening was apparently struck by lightning as it made its descent into the Southwest town for landing.

Passenger Rahnia Boyer told KTUU Weather that she "saw a bright flash and a pop noise" as the plane was descending. She says no one panicked and once the plane landed, the pilot did make a short announcement about the incident.

"No one freaked out, everybody stayed pretty calm," Boyer said.

The lightning map from the Alaska Interagency Coordination Center showed a lone lightning strike in the Bethel area on the evening of May 13, 2019.
