ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) - Two people are facing charges following a crash involving a stolen 2007 Toyota Highlander.
The Anchorage Police Department says on Wednesday it received a call about the SUV being taken from in front of a home on the 500-block of E 14th Avenue. Police say the owner was at a friend’s house, and her keys also went missing.
Early Thursday morning an officer saw a car matching the description on 6th Avenue between B and C Streets. Once the officer ran the plates and they popped up stolen, the officer tried to pull over the SUV.
That’s when the driver took off and ended up running a red light only to be t-boned by a white Volkswagen Jetta in the intersection of 6th and A Street.
The Toyota spun around and flipped over several times before coming to a rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Thankfully, no one in either vehicle was seriously hurt.
Four people inside the stolen Toyota got out and tried to run but were caught by the police.
20-year-old Wylene R. Blevins was charged with Riding in a Stolen Vehicle.
20-year-old Jakob W. Gonangnan-Melgreen was taken to the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Vehicle Theft I, Theft II, Fail to Stop at the Direction of an Officer, two counts of Assault III, Leaving the Scene of a Crash, and Reckless Driving.
The other two occupants of the stolen Toyota were not charged.
