ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The AARP free tax aid program is geared towards helping mid to low income families. Thanks to a group of volunteers that have been trained and certified by the IRS, participants will receive basic return tax services at no charge, which means that whatever money they get back will go straight into their pockets.
The program also consists of tax prep stations and coaches for anyone who earned less than $66,000 in 2018. Those individuals qualify to file a no-fee tax return online at MyFreeTaxes.com.
According to the United Way of Anchorage, 4,437 Anchorage residents saved an estimated $887,400 in tax prep fees in 2018. About $5million were refunded through the Free Tax Prep program.
Additionally, since the program began in 2000 tax, almost $130 million dollars in refunds have gone back to Alaska families and into local and state economies.
Those interested can check out the ongoing schedule of tax prep sites throughout Anchorage and two more Special Weekend Events at freetaxprepanc.com or by calling 2-1-1.
