Feeding feathered friends: Williwaw Elementary students learn responsibility in caring for chickens

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Feeding fowl and gathering eggs, Williwaw Elementary librarian Kay Waitman teaches students life lessons by caring for chickens.

A group of Icelandic chickens hatched in April. The students cared for them as they grew from chicks to hens.

Charlotte, Rapunzel, Alice, Raina, and Via were named after characters from books.

Waitman says the students learn responsibility by feeding and caring for the hens.
