ANCHORAGE (KTUU) 7:50 a.m. Update:
A GCI spokesperson told KTUU that teams with the company are working to fully restore service to the network after a 3 hour outage last night that impacted wireless service for customers in communities across the state.
"The outage began around 3 a.m. All services, with the exception of wireless 3G data service, appear to have been largely restored around 5:45 a.m.," Heather Handyside, spokesperson for GCI, said.
"We expect to have 3G data service restored soon," she said in an early morning email.
If you're a GCI customer and notice your phone or any other service is not working, you're not alone. According to GCI's down detector website, some members reported having issues with their GCI service since 3:17 a.m.
So far, 50 reports have been made in the last 24 hours mainly coming from Anchorage, Fairbanks, Wasilla, Eagle River, Palmer, Juneau, North Pole, Homer, Soldotna and Seward. A view showing reports of the company's outage map can be viewed online.
According to that outage detecting website, early Thursday the code red "Problems at GCI" message was changed to a "Possible problems at GCI" yellow-code message. The online outage map still shows many customers without service.
KTUU has reached out to GCI for answers to questions such as how many customes are being impacted, and when the outage is expected to be resolved. As of this filing, they have not responded.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
