ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Glenn Highway was temporarily closed after a pickup truck veered off the road and launched off a dirt embankment near North Peters Creek just before noon on Monday. The Glenn Highway inbound was closed for several hours, but the left-hand lane was reopened at about 1:30 p.m.
The driver was helicoptered from the scene for medical treatment, though the extent of his injuries isn’t clear.
The driver, a man, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and wasthe sole occupant of the vehicle. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle traveled about 200 yards before launching off of the dirt embankment.
The truck “flew over the trees and then landed engine first into the ground at the edge of the creek.” It was reported that the driver had “several injuries,” though the nature of those injuries was unclear.
Another vehicle slowed down after seeing the pickup truck and was rear-ended, though that resulted in just minor injuries.
It’s still unknown why the vehicle left the roadway.
