ANCHORAGE (KTUU) Alaska state flags will be flown at half-staff on Monday in honor of the thousands of Americans who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Governor Bill Walker gave the order Sunday and says he hopes Americans will reflect on the importance of freedom, tolerance, patriotism, diversity, and respect for others on Patriots Day.

In a statement released Monday Walker wrote, “We honor and remember the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives, and the heroic first responders and emergency personnel who came to the aid of others immediately following the attacks. This unprovoked tragedy will never be forgotten.”
