ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Governor Bill Walker is 1-of-11 governors urging Congress to quickly address the "Dreamers" situation, and allow them to stay in the United States.
According to the letter sent to the Congressional leadership, nearly 800,000 people eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are living in the United States, and more than 12,000 Dreamers have “"ost their protective status and are susceptible to deportation." The statement goes on to say that number will increase dramatically, without a fix from Congress.
The letter continues, "We stand with these young American immigrants not only because it is good for our communities and a strong American 21st century economy, but also because it is the right thing for our nation to do."
