ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaska State Troopers say a Homer man will spend a week in jail and pay a hefty fine for wanton waste after killing a moose and leaving it in his backyard.
AST says 28-year-old Cameron D. Larrick was found guilty in the Homer District Court of wanton waste of a big game animal. Along with serving seven days in jail and paying a $2,500 fine, his hunting license was revoked for the next five years.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Larrick after an investigation revealed he shot a moose in his backyard after it charged him and his dog.
Larrick failed to report the incident and failed to salvage any of the meat from the moose, leaving it to rot in his backyard.
