Hundreds forced to evacuate from Fairbanks hotel after fire Thursday evening
Over 500 guests and staff had to be evacuated from the Fairbanks Princess Riverside Lodge Thursday evening after a kitchen fire spread to the floor and support structures.
The University Fire Department was the first responder to the fire, located on Pike's Landing Road near the airport in Fairbanks, and “made an aggressive attack and were able to keep the fire from further extending into other parts of the building.”
Evacuated guests were transported off site while Princess works on a plan to readmit guests. Princess Cruises said in a statement that all guests and workers are "safely accounted for" and were re-assigned to hotels around town. Princess said that they will announce if they will need to extend the deadline for readmission to the hotel beyond Friday.
A total of 78 responders from fire departments around the region helped extinguish the fire.
