Hundreds turn out at Jewel Lake for a community fishing event

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Thousands of freshly stocked chinook salmon were the prized fish at the Alaska Department of Fish and game's community fishing day, which was held at Jewel Lake over the weekend.

The group used this family oriented event to promote their WeFishAK campaign. It's an effort to expose younger Alaskans to fishing at an early age.

Free gear and bait were provided to children who came out to try their luck, and the event organizers ended up selling over 100 Alaska state fishing licenses at the event.
