ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - For the first time in six years all active duty Air Force, Guard, and Reserve forces took part in the twice annual Polar Force exercise at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson.
Airman from the 773rd Civil Engineering Squadron pieced together a simulated helicopter landing pad.
"It's really just a puzzle piece that you put together", said Sgt. Jeremiah Jones. "It interlocks. It ties in together with pins and you can stretch it out as far as you can go."
JBER Commander Colonel Patricia Csank said Polar Force is held twice a year because about one third of military forces at JBER swap out during the summer.
"Are we ready to go to war?" Csank said. "Are we ready to handle emergency and disaster response? Can we protect and defend the base? Can we be good neighbors to the local community that we have here?"
