ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - One man involved in a SWAT standoff on Kennyhill Drive, was found dead in his backyard with a self-inflicted gun shot wound according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Around 9 p.m. on Christmas, APD was notified of a dispute involving a man and woman, along the 5600-block of Kennyhill Drive. According to APD spokesperson MJ Thim, the woman was reportedly assaulted, but managed to exit the residence safely.

When officers arrived on scene, they were unable to convince the man to leave the residence peacefully. Thim reports that at this point in time, SWAT was called in.

According to police, the suspect was armed and authorities discovered he had a felony warrant out for his arrest.

Around 2:30 a.m., gas was deployed and police searched the house room by room, using a robot. According to Thim, the suspect was located in the backyard with a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He was declared dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, Thim confirms that the suspect was 49-year-old Daniel Fleener. Additionally, he says next-of-kin have been notified of his death.

This incident was isolated to the residence. Thim says no evacuations were made and no one else was injured.
