Southwest lightning captured on camera thanks to KTUU Weather App
A line of thunderstorms moved through Southwest Alaska Wednesday night and Thursday morning. A viewer credits the KTUU weather app for an alert that lightning was within a mile of his house.
Jeffrey Charles says the app alert told him that lightning was less than a mile out of Newtok Wednesday afternoon, July 10, 2019.
Charles was able to take several photos of the passing thunderstorm.
KTUU radar captured the afternoon storm as it passed by the village around 3:30 p.m.
Early in the morning, the lightning show started firing up in Scammon Bay and that was captured on video and in photos. Karen Kaganak
said, "That color though with the lightning strike...amazing!" She estimates the thunderstorms rolled through between 2 and 3 in the morning, Thursday, July 11, 2019.
A spectacular bolt was captured on video as well.
