ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Saturday is not just “907 Day”, but it’s also the day 49th State Brewery will hold its Alaska Duck Race.
Proceeds from the event are benefiting local youth education and sports programs including Anchorage Hockey Association, Cook Inlet soccer, and Alaska Excel.
Jason Motyka, co-owner of 49th State Brewing Co., says one of the goals steaming from the event is to “be the focal point to create a great community event,” and that the event is a “good way to get the community involved.”
Motyka says this is the first time they are holding the event. So far about 3,500 tickets have been sold with the goal for the event being 4,000 tickets.
The ducks will race down Ship Creek River to below the Bridge Restaurant, in front of The Bait Shack where the Official Duck Committee will capture all the ducks.
The three ducks that that cross the finish line first are the prize winning ducks.
- 1st place duck wins $3,000
- 2nd place duck wins $2,000
- 3rd place duck wins $1,000
Those who buy a ticket and take part in the race get a “muck.” As you can see above, the muck is a mythical animal, part moose and part duck. The adorable Alaskan souvenir is a yellow rubber ducky with moose antlers.
