ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - On Saturday, Anchorage families gathered to celebrate the official opening of Chugach Foothills Park and Playground.
In East Anchorage, the all-inclusive playground was designed as a space for children and adults to play, including those with disabilities.
Senior Park Planner Maeve Nevins-Lavtar said the playground is based on science and art.
"We have a full assemble of outdoor musical equipment and that's unique to Anchorage," Nevins-Lavtar said. "At the Parks Dept., we have been sprinkling pieces of musical equipment all over, but with this one, we have the whole assembly. "
According to Parks and Recreation, the design and construction of the all-inclusive playground was paid for by the Municipality of Anchorage Bond of $250,000. The Anchorage Parks Foundation funded $4,700 for the site survey.
