Man arrested after threatening people with machete in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) — A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to break into cars and threatening a good Samaritan with a machete at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks Wednesday.

According to a release from Fairbanks Police, the trouble began when a good Samaritan called police after witnessing a man attempting to break into cars, and when the suspect noticed the caller taking photos, he chased after them wielding a machete.

FPD says the man, identified as 36-year-old Rex Owen Defrance dropped the machete and a backpack before being arrested by Fairbanks Police and Alaska State Troopers.

Defrance was taken to Fairbanks Correctional Center and charged with robbery and assault.
