Man arrested in Fairbanks for sexual assault in police department lobby

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A man in Fairbanks has been arrested and charged with three counts of sexual assault after he allegedly assaulted a female in the vestibule of the Fairbanks Police Department after the two turned in a lost debit card.

Just before 4 a.m. Monday, the City of Fairbanks says 25-year-old Devan Thomas Gage and a female entered the lobby of the building and slipped a lost debit card under the closed front-desk window. The pair then sat down in the vestibule to warm up and the female slumped over after passing out, and Gage started assaulting her.

At about 4:30 a.m., shortly after the assault began, a dispatcher with the Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center saw the assault happening on the department's surveillance system. She alerted two officers that were in the building, who immediately went and pulled Gage off the female.

The victim began to wake up, and officers determined that she was too impaired to consent to sexual activity. Gage told officers that he had been with the victim all night and that he was sober. Gage’s portable breath test registered .000 BAC.

The victim was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and Gage was booked at Fairbanks Correctional Center.
