ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Early Sunday morning Alaska State Troopers arrested a man who brandished firearms, causing a closure of the Sterling Highway. They were first called to assist at 6:23 a.m. at mile 131, just north of Ninilchik. Troopers were told that a vehicle was blocking the northbound lane, and when other drivers went to check on the driver, he brandished firearms.

When Troopers arrived, they made suicidal comments, and Troopers’ SERT team was activated, including a Bearcat tactical vehicle. Troopers deployed gas, and the man, identified as 45-year-old Todd Bashaw of Soldotna got out of the vehicle and was arrested.
Troopers found that the firearms Bashaw had had been stolen from a Ninilchik home that night.

Bashaw is charged with Assault III, disorderly conduct, and theft II.
