ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) A man accused of shooting his girlfriend while allegedly attempting suicide appeared in court Sunday.
Victor Carl Sibson, 21 is charged with murder in the second degree in the death of his girlfriend, 22-year-old Brittanymae Haag last month.
An Anchorage judge entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.
Prosecutors believe Haag was trying to stop Sibson from killing himself when a bullet he fired into his head struck her in the right side of the chest.
Both were hospitalized, Haag died that same day while Sibson was treated for life-threatening injuries.
Sibson told the judge he is not currently employed and could not afford an attorney.
He’s being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
