JUNEAU, Alaska (KTUU) - Authorities in Juneau are conducting a death investigation after they found the body of a local man floating in the Gastineau Channel near downtown Juneau.
Ricardo Willard, 53, of Juneau, was found floating about 50 feet from the shore, in waters near the USCG Station Juneau by 345 Egan Drive, according to the Juneau Police Department.
It is not yet known how he wound up in the water, and JPD said officers saw no sign of trauma to Willard's body. His body was spotted at around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Now, Willard's body will be flown to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
JPD said in a statement that his death is still under investigation.
