Man injured in Turnagain shooting

Police responded to the 3100 block of W. 31st Ave. Friday where they found a man who'd been shot in the upper body. (KTUU)

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A man who'd been shot was found Friday afternoon in a West Anchorage neighborhood.

Police say at about 3 p.m. they received a report of shots fired in the 3100 block of W. 31st Ave., which is near the intersection of 31st and Wisconsin St. in Turnagain.

Officers found a man there with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to the hospital.

Police spokesperson MJ Thim says the victim was not shot at the location where he was found. At 4:45, police released a second update saying the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

The intersection is about two blocks from Turnagain Elementary School. ASD spokesperson Alan Brown says the school did not go into stay-put or lockdown mode, and no delays were caused.

The area of the intersection was clear of police by 4:40.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident, including surveillance video, to call Dispatch at 311.
