SEWARD, Alaska (KTUU) - A 46-year-old man was mauled by a brown bear with cubs near the Seward airport on Thursday morning, according to the Seward Police Department.
Seward Police Chief Tom Clemons said the man was walking his dogs in the area when the bear attacked. The man was able to call for help on his cell phone at around 6:46 a.m. He was taken to Providence Seward Medical Center for treatment.
The extent of the man’s injuries were not immediately known but Clemons said he is alive and “doing well.”
Seward police officers are currently in the area searching for the bear. The public is advised to stay away. The Department of Fish and Game has been advised of the situation, Clemons said.
