ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Thursday, June 21 Update:
The investigation into the homicide of Geoffrey Sorden is continuing, and now police believe there's one person who may have been there when the killing happened that they haven't spoken with yet.
That man, 41-year-old Jason E. Premo, is being called a "person of interest" by APD in a community alert, issued to notify Premo that police want to talk to him.
APD said Premo is thought to have been in the room when Sorden was killed, but that he left before the police showed up.
"Premo is 5’09” tall, 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes," APD described him. "Police are looking to speak with Premo to discuss what he may have witnessed."
Wednesday, June 20 Update:
Anchorage Police have identified the victim of a midtown homicide as Geoffrey Sorden, 48.
According to APD, preliminary investigation found that a fight between a group of people inside an apartment on the 6000 block of Austin Street off Dowling Road ended when two people were shot.
One man was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He has not been named.
Investigators ask anyone with information to contact police.
11:30 a.m. Update:
Gunfire broke out Monday, and police issued few new details about what led to the shooting.
Tuesday, in a community alert, the Anchorage Police Department said an "altercation" broke out inside the apartment, ending with the shooting of two people.
One man was killed, and another was taken to the hospital for "non-life threatening injuries." Neither of the two men have been named publicly.
APD spokesperson MJ Thim said that officers have spoken to everyone who was there, but they're still piecing together exactly what happened, and are planning to speak with the gunshot victim who survived the shooting.
"It was a targeted crime," Thim said, "And it's related to ongoing situations known about that apartment building."
Those situations could involve money and drugs, according to APD's statement.
Anchorage Police are investigating a homicide in Midtown Anchorage Monday afternoon.
Police say they were called to a home on the 6000 block of Austin St., at its intersection with Dowling Road, at 4:00 p.m. Two men were found shot—one was dead.
The other man was taken to a hospital. Police did not know the extent of his injuries immediately.
Police say they are still investigating, but believe they have contacted everyone involved.
The area, off Dowling between Old Seward and C Street, is closed while officers investigate. Police ask people to avoid the area.
