ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Longtime staple of the mountain running community Mataas Sari will be calling the shots for the world-renowned Mount Marathon race beginning in 2020.
Saari is the first individual race director for the Mount Marathon since 2004 according to the Seward Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the race.
The chamber says for the past 15 years the event has been managed by their staff.
“I have a passion for Mount Marathon and look forward to helping improve what is already a great race for participants, spectators, sponsors, volunteers and organizers,” Saari said in a press release from the race.
Saari is no stranger to the running scene in Alaska, directing Crow Pass and Tour of Anchorage, and even winning Mount Marathon in 2009. The 2020 race will be the 93rd running of the Alaskan Independence Day tradition.
