ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A West Michigan couple killed in a plane crash Southeast of Seward on Friday had purchased property off of Johnstone Bay, according to property records.

Mike and Traci Timmer and pilot Kem Sibbitt were found dead after the Helio Courier crashed near Little Johnstone Lake, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The communications manager the Kent County (Michigan) Health Department confirmed with Channel 2 that Traci worked for the department. He also referred to a GoFundMe page set up by a family member to help cover funeral costs. The county administrator told the Grand Rapids newspaper MLive that the Timmers were enjoying a vacation to visit a property they had purchased "in the Alaskan wilderness."

Online property records show that Mike Timmer purchased a 4.68 acre plat on Little Johnstone Lake in 2017.

FAA records indicate the Sibbitts had an airline transport pilot certificate and held commercial privileges for single-engine seaplanes. Records show he had held those certifications since 2009 and earned a single engine flight instructor certificate in 2018.
