ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - In Mountain View, traditional songs and dances were shared as cultures from all across the globe united to celebrate World Refugee Day.
Lisa Aquino, Executive director for Catholic Social Services says Mountain View is one of the most diverse communities in the nation.
"Celebration and acceptance and cultures from all over the place, that's the kind of spirit that our clients are excited to be a part of," Aquino said.
The festival launched, Grow North Farms. The program is a partnership between Catholic Social Services and Anchorage Community Land Trust.
Aquino says, Grow North Farms gives refugees an opportunity to grow and sell produce.
Kahalid Abdulahi, Moutain View Farmers' Market manager says the market provides fresh produce for the community and help farmers make connections.
Abdulahi said, The market is important for Mountain View so residents can meet their neighbors.
Grow North Farm is at 3543 Mountain View Drive. The Market will be open every Thursday from 3-7 p.m. from June 28th to September 27th.
