ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Nenana Ice Classic tripod has moved far enough to trigger the time clock for the 2018 contest.

The official time for the 2018 contest is 1:18 p.m. AKST on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, according to Cherrie Forness, the contest manager. That means the tripod moved far enough at 2:18 p.m. Alaska Daylight time -- the contest clock doesn't account for Daylight Saving Time.

It's the 8th time the contest has come to an end on May 1 -- including for 2017, when the ice went out at noon.

This year's jackpot is $225,000 for whoever guessed the correct date and time. It may be split among multiple guesses.

The tripod fell far enough to trip the siren attached to it Monday, April 30, but it wasn't until Tuesday that the line connecting the tripod to the time clock pulled far enough.
