New store brings international lingerie brand to Alaska

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A new boutique at the Anchorage 5th Ave. Mall has brought an international lingerie brand to the Last Frontier.

It's been a long-awaited opening, according to Kari Skinner, Director of Mktg. and Business Development for the Anchorage 5th Ave. Mall.

"Every store we open is exciting, because it reflects what customers want," Skinner said, "especially in this case.

"We've heard for a long time that this is a store that's been missing here in Anchorage, so we're really excited," she said.

The new Victoria's Secret shop is an 11,000-square foot boutique that includes various lines from the brand, including the particularly popular PINK assortment, which is especially favored by the younger demographic.

"We love PINK," said Tatumn Willis. "PINK is awesome."

Willis arrived to be first in line along with her sisters and mom Friday morning. They woke up at 3 a.m. for the opening.

"It's my favorite store," Breckynn Willis said.

Their mother, Meagan Kowatch, said they've been counting down the days to the opening.

"I mean, on the calendar, 'When's the 28th? Can we go? Can we go to the opening?'" she said.

Of the many people standing in a line that stretched all the way around the third floor of the mall Friday morning, some had never been inside a Victoria's Secret boutique, while others were more familiar.

"Totally got here, jumped in line 15 minutes ago, and came back out," said Carly Sparkles, who exited the store with a classic pink Victoria's Secret shopping bag of her own.

"It's earlier than I wake up normally, but I'm just here to get shopping done," she said. "But it's nice."

Patrons who were especially excited about the opening cited no shipping fees, no wait and the chance to try items on as reasons they wanted a store in town.

Doors opened to the public at 8 a.m. Friday, two hours earlier than the normal opening time.
