KOTZEBUE, Alaska (KTUU) - Nicolas Petit's incredible 2018 mushing season continued Sunday with a victory in the Kobuk 440.
Petit has won every sled dog race he entered in the past year with the exception of the 2018 Iditarod, when he finished in second place.
The French-born musher won the race touted as the “Toughest Sled Dog Race Above the Arctic Circle” just after midnight with seven dogs in harness.
Petit was three hours ahead of second-place finisher Tony Browning and over five hours ahead of Ellen King, four-time Iditarod champion Jeff King's daughter.
KNOM reports that Petit takes home $15,000 for his first-place finish.
