Oil leases for 3.98 million acres of federal lands in Arctic Alaska to be auctioned

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - The Bureau of Land Management on Tuesday announced its annual oil lease sale in the National Petroleum Reserve Alaska will be held on Dec. 11.

BLM said the sale will include 350 tracts, about 3.98 million acres, available for leasing.

BLM says it must receive all bids two days before the auction.

The Detailed Statement of Sale for the 2019 NPR-A Oil and Gas Lease Sale became available to the public on November 5, 2019.

On Sept. 20, 2019, the Alaska Journal of Commerce reported ConocoPhillips intends to drill seven new exploratory wells in the area.
