VALDEZ, Alaska (KTUU) The Department of Environmental Conservation says an oil spill has been reported at Berth 5 at the Valdez Marine Terminal. The oil terminal is operated by Alyeska Pipeline Service Company.
According to a situation report released Sunday afternoon, the spill was discovered during rounds on Saturday. According to the report, the spill is estimated at less than 200 gallons, but the exact amount of Alaska North Slope crude spilled is unknown.
No sheen has been observed on the water.
The DEC wrote an official cause is under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate, “crude was leaking from the end caps of two (of four) loading arms into containment. No tankers were loading at the time.”
There have been no impacts to the operation of the trans-Alaska pipeline itself, according to the report.
