One dead, one rescued after skiff capsizes in Southeast Alaska

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - One person has died and another was rescued after a skiff capsized in Duncan Canal in Southeast Alaska, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard was notified at 1 a.m. Friday that a skiff with two people on board had capsized while on its way to a larger vessel. The crew of the larger boat was able to save one of the people on board.

A Coast Guard helicopter, State Troopers and Petersburg Search and Rescue personnel responded to the area, near Salt Chuck, to search for the missing person. The person was found dead by the Coast Guard helicopter crew.
