One killed, four others hurt in head-on crash on the Sterling Highway

ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) - Correction and Update:
The Alaska State Troopers said that their original count of five injured people was incorrect; there were only four injured people in the pickup truck.

AST says that they believe the collision occurred when the northbound driver of the Subaru crossed the center lane. The pickup truck attempted to avoid the collision, but weren't successful.

There is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved, but Troopers are conducting a toxicology report, which will about eight weeks.

Alaska State Troopers say one person is dead, five others are hurt following a head-on crash on the Sterling Highway.

AST says the crash involved a Subaru and a pick-up truck at mile 142.

Troopers identified the person killed as 18-year-old Michael Franklin of Homer.

Franklin was the driver of the Subaru, and AST says he died from his injuries.

The five people hurt were in the pick-up truck. The driver of the truck was identified by troopers as 39-year-old Garrett Bowley.

Of the hurt, four people were transported by ground ambulance and one by LifeMed to Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

The cause of the crash is not known at this time.

Next of kin for Franklin was notified.

AST says the investigation is ongoing.
