UPDATE: Driver in Northern Lights fatal collision identified

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Update: Monday APD has identified the person who died in a fatal traffic collision early Sunday morning as 42-year-old Derrick Seals.

According to APD, preliminary investigation found that Seals was driving a 1993 green Ford Bronco when he struck a 2009 silver Dodge Journey from behind at the intersection of Debarr and Muldoon.

Seals allegedly fled the scene, with the driver of the Dodge Journey following.

APD says when the vehicles reached the intersection of Northern Lights Blvd. and Patterson Street, Seals' Bronco struck a light pole, left the roadway, rolled over and landed in a wooded area several yards from the street. Seals was ejected from the vehicle.

APD made contact with the driver of the Dodge Journey and other drivers who had stopped at the scene.

No arrests or citations have been made or issued in the case.

It's currently unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash pending the results of toxicology tests.

Seals' family has been notified.

A person died after being ejected from their vehicle in a collision near Northern Lights Blvd. and Patterson Street in Northeast Anchorage early Sunday morning.

According to Anchorage Police, officers responded to the area of Northern Lights Blvd. between Patterson and Brittany Streets shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday regarding a vehicle collision.

Officers on scene discovered a vehicle in the tree line and its driver ejected from the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was declared deceased at the scene.

APD says the accident is under investigation, including the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether or not any other vehicles were involved.

Anyone with information about the collision who hasn't already spoken with police is asked to call APD Dispatch at 311 (option #1).

The identity of the driver has not yet been released, pending next-of-kin notification.
