ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Updated 5:19 p.m.:
One person is dead after a crash on the Parks Highway at Big Lake Road Thursday afternoon.

Troopers at the scene say two others were taken to the hospital in the crash between a semi and an SUV. A spokesperson said one patient was taken by helicopter and the other by ambulance.

It's one of two major accidents affecting traffic in the Mat-Su Borough Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say the Parks Highway is closed in both directions at Big Lake Road after a wreck involving a semi and an SUV. Multiple injuries were reported in the crash, but at 3:40 p.m. a Troopers spokesperson in Anchorage did not have a specific number, or a report on the extent of injuries.

Another major crash took place at the Parks Highway and Church Road, just north of Wasilla. Wasilla Police posted on their Facebook page that the southbound lanes of the Parks Highway -- headed into Wasilla -- are closed. Just before 4 p.m. the department updated, saying the crash at Church Road was no longer blocking Southbound traffic.

Ken Barkley with the Mat-Su Borough said emergency responders were also attending to a crash at Knik-Goose Bay Road and Bogle Bluff Drive.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

Channel 2's Beth Verge and Laura Holman also contributed to this report.
