ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — A pedestrian male reported to be stumbling on the shoulder of the Glenn Highway by drivers early Sunday morning was fatally struck minutes later by another driver who called police and remained on the scene.

According to Anchorage Police, shortly before 2:15 Sunday morning, APD dispatch received a report of an adult male stumbling on the shoulder of the Glenn Highway near the main JBER exit.

APD says minutes later, before officers arrived on scene, another citizen called police and reported that he hit a male in the roadway of inbound lanes near the Eklutna Power Plant.

Other motorists stopped and began CPR on the pedestrian until medics arrived. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The collision and subsequent investigation closed inbound lanes from the JBER exit to the Muldoon Road exit until shortly after 7:00 Sunday morning.

APD says the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police, and that it "will not be known if alcohol and/or drugs was a factor until toxicology results are received."

The victim has not yet been identified pending notification to family.
