Police identify man found dead, say he fell in the street an hour before he was hit

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Anchorage Police have identified the man found dead on Benson Boulevard, and say they have found that he was lying in the road for more than an hour before he was hit by a car.

Police identified the man Wednesday as 36-year-old Dwayne Nelson. Police say the driver of the 1994 Subaru wagon that hit him has been interviewed and released, with no charges filed so far.

Police say the investigation found that at about 1 a.m. on May 8, Nelson walked into the road and fell. A pedestrian pushing a cart on the sidewalk placed a light-colored blanket over Nelson and kept walking. Several vehicles drove past and multiple pedestrians were in the area in the hour that passed before Nelson was hit.

Police say none of those witnesses have come forward to help in the investigation.

Anyone with information to help in the investigation is asked to call APD's non-emergency number, 311.
