ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - 6/12 Update:

Anchorage police have released the identity of the man stabbed outside of Bean's Cafe on June 8.

They say Kyle A. Rea was found stabbed after he walked to Bean's Cafe for help. He later died.

Police have not yet identified a suspect in this case, and the investigation is considered to be ongoing. APD initially said the suspect was a black or Hispanic male, they later changed this preliminary description to be a Native Alaskan male.

This is story will be updated when more information becomes available.

Original Story:

A suspect is still at large and motives remain unclear Thursday morning after a man was stabbed outside of Bean's Cafe on 3rd Avenue.

Lieutenant John McKinnon with APD said that they are now investigating the crime as a homicide after the victim succumbed to his injury - a stab wound to the chest.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was reportedly stabbed while walking on the sidewalk. McKinnon said the victim then ran to Bean's Cafe, bleeding, to get help. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Anchorage police responded to the stabbing at around 8 a.m. Thursday, just after the crime allegedly took place. Police say that the suspect is "still outstanding."

APD described the suspect as an "Alaska Native male, late 20's or early 30's, 6'0-6'2, weighing 210-225, short, black hair, slight mustache." Witnesses also reported to APD that the man changed his clothing shortly after the incident.

Authorities do not believe this to be a random act.

"These guys probably knew each other. They're part of the population down here," McKinnon said.

Authorities say they do have video of the incident in question, which was captured by a Bean's Cafe security camera.

Samantha Coyle said she was inside the building when the stabbing occurred, but she came outside when police and ambulances showed up.

Coyle said she saw one person taken away in an ambulance, and that most of the surrounding area around the building had been taped off with crime scene tape.

This is the 16th homicide this year. You can view where they happened here on our interactive crime map.
