UPDATED: Power Outage in Birchwood Area

BIRCHWOOD, Alaska UPDATE: 11:15a.m.

In an email, an ASD spokesperson says power is back on at Birchwood ABC.

MEA says a tree was removed from a power line and all power should be restored to the area.

UPDATE: 9:42a.m.

ASD says Birchwood ABC Elementary will stay open on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Anchorage Schools says parents choose to keep kids home, it won't count against their absences.

Hundreds of households in the Birchwood area are without power Thursday morning.

Matanuska Electric Association says 882 members are affected by the outage.

Caught in the middle of the power outage is Birchwood ABC Elementary.

A spokesperson for the Anchorage School District says that the school is without power and it is currently running on generators.

It is not known at this time if the school will shutdown for the day.. ASD says they have maintenance crews on the way to the school to evaluate the situation.

MEA says they have a crew en route to figure out the cause of the power outage.
