Rain, snow and an already slow commute

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valleys are expecting rain and snow to move through the region overnight Sunday into early Monday morning. Rain will move into Anchorage first then turn to a rain-snow mix and finally into all snow by late Monday.

Anchorage and the Matanuska Valley could see between 3 and 6 inches of snow; the Susitna Valley between 4 and 8 inches of snow. Though these are not incredibly high amounts of snow, the timing and the impact on roads mean Monday morning’s commute could be challenging. The heaviest amounts of snow are expected between 11 p.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday. Expect slippery roads and reduced visibility at times.

The storm is moving quickly. The snow event is expected to be finished by about 8 a.m. Monday.
