Recall Dunleavy campaign says it has over 10,000 signatures
In a press release, the Recall Dunleavy campaign said that the first day of signature gathering "exceeds expectations" by gathering over 10,000 signatures in nine hours.
The group says that it gathered signatures in about twenty communities.
“One of the biggest stars was the community of Yakutat who garnered signatures from 30% of the registered voter population on the first day at Mallott’s General Store,” Meda DeWitt, the chair of the campaign said in a press release.
The release also says that the campaign raised over $13,000 in small donations in the first 24 hours.
The campaign needs to gather 28,489 -- ten percent of the total of voters who voted in the last election -- for the first phase of signature gathering. Then they'll need to gather 71,222 in order to get the petition to recall on a ballot.
