Reopening of the Dome pushed back until January

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Anchorage community will have to wait another month for the Dome to reopen.

The indoor sports facility was scheduled to reopen sometime in November, but will now reopen in January due to ongoing repairs.

An assessment determined the turf was too damaged and could not be repaired, according to the Dome’s CEO, Curtis Penney. New turf is coming from Georgia. New LED lights will also be installed, which will make the facility brighter, Penney said.

The project is expected to cost about $6.5 million. It will be paid for through investments and donations, according to Penney.
