ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Anchorage police responded to an early morning burglary Monday in the neighborhood of St. Johns Drive and Prominence Pointe Drive.

Police say the incident happened around 7:00 a.m. Monday when a woman and her child reported a vehicle smashing into the side of their home on Olena Pointe Cir. The woman and her son locked themselves in a home in the room.

"We caught the suspect in the act." APD spokesperson MJ Thim said.

Police say 25-year-old Ryan Austin was found in the basement burglarizing the home. Police say Austin had also been reported by residents in the same neighborhood Saturday to be looking into home windows.

At that time, officers found Austin, who said he was looking for a friend. The officers told Austin not to come back to the neighborhood.

In Monday morning's case, Austin faces multiple charges including burglary 1 and criminal mischief.
