WATCH: Retiring pilot to get a special "water salute" as he ends his service

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - A Northern Air Cargo (NAC) pilot is retiring Tuesday, and a special ceremony is taking place.

Wallace J. Niles’ final flight will be King Salmon to Anchorage, landing in Anchorage at around 1:30 p.m.

Once he touches down, a Water Salute will take place, meaning two Airport Fire Department trucks will make an arch for the plane to taxi through while being sprayed with water.

Niles started with NAC in 1980. He held positions from Captain to Chief Pilot. He also worked for the FAA and the State of Alaska Division of Forestry during his career.

The water salute is expected to last about two minutes and can use as much as 3,000 gallons of water.
