The Susitna River runs 313 miles and ranks the 15th largest river in the United States.
While it’s known for its great salmon fishing, it’s less known as a white-water destination.
Israel Mahay, a captain for Mahay’s Jet Boat Adventures took the Roadtrippin’ team upriver to get a whole different look on the river.
"So we've made it about 60 miles upstream from talkeet and this is the Devil's Horn Rapid. It gets that name because the rock formation that creates this whitewater, but the water is so high today you can't even see it," he says.
Landlubbers need not be too scared though--the boat is designed to take in the punishing rapids and stay upright. And the engineering is combined with the masterful captainship that comes with 40 years of experience.
"What's really awesome is with this boat, we can hold it pretty steady. Even though we've got - that's class five back behind us, and that's a class six right in front of us," Mahay says excitedly.
