Original Story - Oct. 9, 2017:
Just before 3 p.m. on Monday, APD says a child was fatally struck by a blue 2015 Dodge SUV that was backing out of a residential parking spot – just off of Old Seward Highway and Huffman Road.
According to APD spokesperson MJ Thim, the boy was playing on the ground in the Silver Fox Lane parking lot when he was hit.
"The driver (adult female) immediately got out and screamed for help," Thim said. And the father of the child, who was home at the time, heard the screams.
Thim said both the father of the child and the adult female driver took the boy to a nearby medical facility where he was declared deceased.
Anchorage police remain on scene as detectives continue the investigation.
A chaplain is now with the family. He says he will remain at the home as long as needed.
Update: This article was updated to reflect the child was a boy, after confirming the information with police.
Correction: A previous version of this story said the child was playing on a bike, but according to police he was actually playing on the ground.
