ANCHORAGE, (KTUU) 5:45 a.m. Update:

According to police, the man that engaged them in an hours-long standoff has been apprehended and is now in custody. Police say he came to the front door and was taken into custody.

The man arrested has been identified as Allan Hernandez. Police will begin to open up the area of Chugach Way following the successful arrest.

According to court records, all charges filed against Hernandez are pending. Police reported that he was arrested on charges of assault, misconduct with a weapon, and reckless endangerment.

Original Story:

A man found himself embattled by SWAT teams in midtown Anchorage early Thursday, after reports came in of a "suspicious adult male brandishing a weapon and pointing it at people on the roadway."

Initially he was spotted pointing the firearm at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Arctic Boulevard, but later moved to a residence on the 900 block of Chugach Way, where police were "able to confine him."

As of this reporting, he is currently there, alone inside the residence and has been refusing to come out. Due to this, SWAT was called in, and APD deployed gas to smoke him out just before 5 a.m.

APD is asking the public to please avoid the area until further notice. They said in an alert that they also plan to use a drone in the altercation.

Channel 2 is on the scene now and will update this story with more developments.
